Ladybugs

Do you know the correct name for a ladybug or sometimes called a lady beetle? The correct name is Coccinellidae which is a part of a family of various beetles.

These little creatures are very small insects that are between 1mm to 10mm and most are yellow and orange and sometimes scarlet with small little black dots on their wings.  They also have little black legs and a small head with antennas sticking out.  There is another species of this bug that is mostly grey, black or brown in color.  These types of bugs are very hard for entomologist to easily recognize.

Lady beetles are found all over the world with a little over 5,000 different species with over 450 of those creatures living North America alone.

There is a myth going on that says that you can tell how old a ladybug is by the number of spot on their back.  This story is not true so do not believe everything you read or hear.
